The Thief: Part 2

WEEE-OOO! WEEE-OOO!

Walter rested his hand over his wife’s shoulder, sitting in the back of a very loud ambulance. It’s all because of that boy, he thought. He leaned back and closed his eyes…

“Son, if you can, could you please…” Walter mentioned, interrupted by Jake, his son.

“Yes, dad, I will definitely send you the money. But I am still saying this again: it will be better to not take a wallet while walking all about the town,” Jake replied.

‘“But Jake you know I don’t know how to use a computer. I don’t even know how to start it.” Walter explained drooping his shoulders down.

“You will get it, Dad. And you know what? I will teach you very, very soon.” Jake promised.

Water came back to the present, that flashback still burned into his memory. The ambulance had reached the hospital, and Bertha was loaded into a clean, white stretcher, as Walter followed the doctors taking her. After a few minutes of rejuvenating in a comfortable, black leather seat, one of the doctors opened the doors of the room Bertha was in. Walter got up as the doctor informed him,

“Don’t worry about Bertha. She is fine. Because of a shock she just collapsed. I am not going to ask you how she was shocked, but just a little warning, if this happens again, it may lead to more severe effects. Also, she will be discharged in 20 minutes, and make sure to pay the bills and receive the medications at the front desk.”

After the doors closed, Walter was feeling mixed emotions. He was elated that Bertha was fine, but won’t she faint every time she thinks about the robbery. He quietly strolled to the front desk and paid the bill. He grabbed the money out of his pocket, this time, with no wallet. He paid the bill, and thought, Anything for Bertha. After receiving the pills, he escorted his re-energized wife to a taxi. When everyone was seated, he peered out the foggy window, and took a glimpse of a figure in a hoodie, not clearly being able to tell the color of it in the dim light, but then, the incognito person stepped to a lit area. Walter gasped.
